Beech Class

Miss Littleton, Miss Samuels and Mrs Burnett

welcome you to Year 1!

A brief introduction...

It's Miss Littleton's fourth year teaching at Stanton in Year 1.  She teaches alongside Miss Samuels who is new to Year 1 this year. She loves to teach Maths, phonics and writing and is passionate about art and D.T too! Miss Samuels is full time in school and teaches in Beech Class all day on a Monday and on a Tuesday morning. Miss Samuels enjoys teaching maths, reading and Jigsaw. Mrs Burnett is our full time Teaching Assistant in Beech Class, she is fantastic at supporting the children with their phonics, maths, and friendships!

The children have their P.E lessons timetabled for a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. We suggest that all P.E kits are left in school for a full half term and then taken home after this for a wash. Please ensure that your child has suitable outside clothing including jogging bottoms and a jumper. Please click here to be taken to our uniform check list.

We visit the library as a whole class every Thursday afternoon. Please make sure that your child has their library book on this day if they wish to exchange it.

In Beech Class, we recognise the importance of reading with the children. Reading not only supports their phonics but their writing and learning across the curriculum. The children are each assigned an online E-Book every Friday which they will have read three times in school with an adult during that week. Please get in touch with Miss Littleton if you are having trouble accessing these. Each of the reading sessions in school focusses on a different aspect of reading; decoding, prosody and comprehension. We then encourage parents to revisit these books daily with their child to aid their fluency and confidence.

Beech Class Learning

In Beech Class, we love to learn and have chosen some fantastic texts and topics to explore throughout the year! We will be sending home Knowledge Organisers regularly that associate with the learning and aim to support children to prepare for our spaced retrieval quizzes.

Home Learning

In year 1 the children are expected to continue their learning at home each week. This includes daily online reading and a weekly phonics challenge that the children complete in their homework books. This will help to consolidate their newly learnt graphemes and tricky words.
